Fuck The Fluff
Christophe Laudamiel, Naked Ghosts 2026 - Sans AI
This is an artistic scent sculpture, in a limited edition of 263 bottles and 5 artist proofs, 26/3, as in the birth date of Headmistress Parfumeure Germaine Cellier. Fuck The Fluff is a dyptique measuring 7.7 x 5.25 x 1.25 in (19.5 x 13.5 x 3 cm), with one 15ml/1 fl oz flask and, separately, 1ml of the original fragrance.
Baccarat Rouge 540®’s website and its perfumer claim that natural Saffron is not used in perfumery. So, we added natural saffron used in perfumery. We wanted the olfactory form to be more rouge smelling. Rouge is French for red. Christophe also happens to love rouge for a color, as far back as he can remember.
Several rouge ingredients from around the world were added for their scent, their rouge spiciness or their rouge human heartfelt warmth. Rouge Champaca India, Ruby Rouge Grapefruit from Florida, Rouge Pepper from various countries. As we like to respect farmers from far away countries, we significantly upped the amount of added extra Jasmine Egypt Grandiflorum in a more significant way, estimated at 10 times what the original fragrance contains. An estimation of 0.04%, which is based on two reputable fragrance houses’ analyses and one independent laboratory. The estimation goes further, calculating that 1 kg of Jasmine from Egypt, purchased for 3,000 USD from the farming company, results in about $44 million in sales of the fragrance. Natural Sambac Jasmine from India, inexistent in the fragrance to the best of our knowledge, combined with a sliver of loving Patchouli Heart, recreates the effect of rich, velvety, rouge theater curtains, comforting and loving… before a drama unfolds.
The artist would like Fuck the Fluff to constitute a small monument in homage to farmers and the art of perfumery after listening to too much of the following:
“Natural Saffron is not used in perfumery.”
- Maison Francis Kurkdjian website.
“Jasmine” or “Jasmine petal breeze,” however, is an official note, as well as “Ambergris”, “Saffron,” and “Cedarwood”.
“The Maison’s Commitment (sic) - Ambergris smells from elsewhere, from another place. .. Ambergris, a substance that forms in the intestines of sperm whales and is naturally released into the sea, is prized in perfumery for the incomparable endurance of its scent.”
- Maison Francis Kurkdjian official Instagram account.
How much Ambergris is in any of the Maison’s fragrances, in fact, by company policy?
“The quality of the raw materials I use are beyond the extraordinary.”
- Baccarat Rouge 540 perfumer interviewed in Le Parfum Haute Magazine, January 2026.
Meanwhile,
Hedione® (often named as the most common ingredient used in fine fragrances from the 1990’s to this day; this “jasmine petal breeze” syntheticlysynthetically-made molecule is about three hundred times less expensive than natural Jasmine Absolute Egypt), Ambroxan® (about forty times less expensive than real ambergris), Evernyl® (ten times less expensive than natural oakmoss), Ethyl Maltol is a well-known molecule, mass produced.
“Let me start by saying that trends don’t really impact my work. I don’t follow them.”
- Perfumer&Flavorist, April 16, 2024.
Meanwhile,
Ethyl Maltol is the exact caramelly molecule used in Mugler’s Angel (Olivier Cresp, 1992, a global gangbuster), Victor and Rolf‘s Flower Bomb (Olivier Polge (now Head Perfumer at Chanel, Carlos Benaïm, Domitille Michalon-Bertier, and Dominique Ropion, 2005), and Spice Bomb (Olivier Polge, 2012).
“ There are not many ways nowadays to launch a successful perfume. Either you make a fruity floral, or you use Ethyl Maltol. I went for Ethyl Maltol,” perfumer-creator of Baccarat Rouge 540, online conference January 26, 2021, titled “Les dessous d’un succès” (translation is “the underwear of a success”, the French twist for “Backstage of a success”). “In general, he finds autobiographical scents to be “vulgar,” he told me, but he makes an exception for home goods.”
- Rachel Syme interviewing the same perfumer-creator, in The New Yorker, Sept 2024.
